Super Mario Bros 3 mixed media by 8Bit-Artist Super Mario Bros 3 mixed media by 8Bit-Artist
let me give you a little background on this painting/perler bead mixed media thing.

acrylic on stretched canvas with perler bead sprites on magnets.

the background is painted 16-bit. i just painted a regular background. no characters sprites were painted in this painting. all the characters and objects were all made with perler beads (these are in my perler bead photo album). i then glued magnets on to the back of the perler beads. then i put an opposing magnet on the back of the canvas so the magnets on the perler bead guys would stay.

this is essentially an artistic moveable video game screen. put the sprites anywhere your little heart desires. endless possibilities of recreating the scene, especially if i would make different characters like tanooki mario, hammer bros mario, koopa's, warp pipe, etc...

Bravo, what a brilliant idea. Teh most difficult thing would have been to make the background pixels the same size as the perler beads, congrats!

luckily the smallest pixels i use match up very well with the perler beads.

wow, that is an AWESOME idea!! Did you find a magnet big enough to cover the whole back of the painting, or did you piece together smaller ones? I have been wondering what to do with all of my sprites I have been making, and this looks like so much fun:) Good job!!

just bought medium sized round magnets from my art store and glued one on the back of the sprite and put an opposing one on the back of the canvas. so i needed 24 magnets total for this piece.
